CANCER AWARENESS SCREENING AND MANAGEMENT

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Kenya. 80% of cancer deaths happen because the disease is diagnosed at an advanced stage.

The foundation offers cancer awareness to encourage early screening and detections of the disease, we provide  patients and their carers with information, advice, counselling and complementary therapies in order to make their cancer journey a little more manageable.

We target to maximize the resources to increase the rate of awareness and early diagnosis at every part of the country, working alongside institutions, organizations and hospitals that offer comprehensive cancer treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

We aim to propel all cancer patients beyond  treatment.

diabetes

DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION

Most cancer patients have other underlying illnesses, common of them being diabetes and hypertension. We offer health education and creat awareness concerning the preventative & management measures of diabetes and blood pressure. we do screening and management of both diseases for early detection and management..

eye blindness

PREVENTABLE BLINDNESS

Cancer can sometimes spread to the eye from other parts of the body, in women it is most likely to happen in breast cancer and in men it is most likely to happen in lung cancer, we also have ocular cancers, these are cancers that start in the eye. Intraocular melanoma is the most common cancer that develops within the eyeball in adults, and in children the most common primary intraocular cancers are Retinoblastoma a cancer that starts in cells in the retina, and medulloepithelioma, a unique embryonal tumor in childhood that arises from the primitive medullary epithelium along the inner stratum of the optic cup.  This tumor mostly appears as white, grey or yellow-colored ciliary body tumor and is diagnosed at a median age of 5yrs.
There are also other non-cancerous eye conditions that can cause blindness,
diabetes related illnesses being commonly associated with most blindness, examples being -: diabetic retinopathy, macular edema which usually develops along with diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage which can be caused by proliferative diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataract (having diabetes makes you 2 - 5 times more likely to develop cataracts). All these can lead to vision loss, early diagnosis and treatment can go a long way towards protecting the eye.
The foundation is taking initiative everyday to creat awareness on measures to prevent blindness by offering free eye screening services, early diagnosis, treatment and management of the conditions.
We aim to avail these services to the less privileged and medically underserved communities, working alongside other organizations and hospitals that offer comprehensive eye screening, treatment, and surgery.

girlchild

GIRL CHILD PROGRAM

HPV(human papillomavirus) is known to be the main cause of  cervical cancer. Vaccine can prevent most cases of cervical, vaginal, vulvar and anal cancers. Some HPV types can cause genital warts(small growths that develop around the genitals, anus or even in public areas) its recommended that all adolescents girls be vaccinated at age 9-14yrs before any likely exposure to sexually transmitted strains of HPV. The younger a girl is when she starts having sex, the greater her risk of acquiring an HPV infection if she is exposed to the virus. The age group with the highest prevalence of HPV infections is 15-25yrs.
The Foundation has tasked itself with the responsibility to create awareness on sexual and reproductive health that touches on girls and young women. Advocating for early carvical cancer awareness and paps smear test screening to both girls and young women.

We have also observed that majority of girls in rural areas of kenya do not have access to formal education and basic necessities that sustain a girls life such as sanitary towels, keeping students away from school and other day to day activities during their menstrual days.
As a result of this, the girls are initiated  into early sexual activities leading to early pregnancies and early marriages in exchange for money to buy sanitary towels, dowry for their parents in drought period, and other basic necessities, making them vulnerable to infectious diseases among them HIV/AIDS.

The foundation in the process of restoring the girl child, distributes inner wears and sanitary towels, engaging the girls in counseling and the consequences   of unprotected sex,  HIV and AIDS, early/unwanted pregnancies, marriages.

Empowering the girl child, advocating education for girls and protecting the girl child holistically, is one of the key priorities of the organisation.

drugs

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL ABUSE

Long term consequences of substance misuse can include an increase in the risk of developing cancer. Addictive substances like alcohol and tobacco are more widely known for their cancer risk.
The Foundation focus' in improving the health of our community by protecting its future. In the process of rehabilitating the drug addicts, we offer guidance and counseling, mental health, engage them in foundation activities, empower them with necessary skills in terms of training, social mobilization, and provide them with necessary skills to fight poverty and keep themselves busy to prevent them from falling back to drugs.
The Foundation also focus' on encouraging proper education for youths, preventing STD's, HIV/AIDS discouraging unprotected sex, early marriages, unwanted pregnancies and mental health issues among the youth.

water and sanitation

RELIEF AND DISASTER RECOVERY

We focus on restoring and improving the livelihoods and health of cancer patients living in disaster-affected communities, as well as recovering them economically, physically, socially and environmentally, providing assistance through measures to alleviate suffering, often by providing human basic needs like food, water, shelter, financial assistance, restoring quality of life and community services to pre- disaster levels, counseling and other support services, to minimize their suffering and make their cancer journey a little more manageable.

water

WATER AND SANITATION

Clean water, clean environment and good hygiene practices are essential for families to thrive.
Cancer patients are weak and their immune is low, living in communities with no access to clean water and sanitation is a health hazard . We partner with other organizations and well wishers  to construct private toilets, drill boreholes and provide water tanks in schools and marginalized communities , giving them access to safe water supplies, private toilets, and hand washing facilities with soap, keeping children, cancer patients and families safe from diseases.
This will reduce the time and energy needed to collect drinking water from miles and miles away, allowing children to attend school, mothers to have time to generate more income for their families, and cancer patients to focus more on their treatment.
